❄️ Jean-Louis Étienne, renowned French doctor, explorer, adventurer, scientist, environmentalist - and the first person to reach the North Pole solo in 1986! - will be coming to Christchurch in January. He will be en route to the Ross Sea aboard his research vessel,
Perseverance, for a 3-year scientific expedition studying Antarctic waters.

The vessel is expected to be in Lyttelton on 10–20 January, and Alliance Française, in partnership with FAST! and Blue Cradle, will host him on Saturday 17 January, 7pm at Naval Point Club, Lyttelton.

Jean-Louis Étienne will make a presentation entitled: A Polar Passion : The Odyssey of Dr. Jean-Louis Etienne which will focus on his expeditions on Perseverance and on the upcoming Antarctic programme.

🛥️ UPDATE ON VISIT OF PERSEVERANCE: We are sorry to announce that, due to delays linked to last-minute changes being made and required in the equipment and crew, we were advised that no visit of the vessel will be possible on Sunday 18th. Security rules regarding entrance to the part of the harbour where the vessel is berthed are also too stringent to allow entry of large groups of external visitors. We understand that you may be very disappointed and apologise to you all.
